OTTAWA — Ottawa news anchor Lauren Davis, the 24-year-old daughter of well-known Toronto radio personality Erin Davis, has died, 580 CFRA News Talk Radio announced on air Monday afternoon.

Lauren Davis was on maternity leave at the time of her death. There were no further details immediately available.

On Sunday, her mother, Erin, took to Twitter to express her pride in the parent that Davis had become.

"Nothing has made me feel more like a mother than witnessing our daughter … grow into the role. So rewarding," she wrote. Lauren had announced her pregnancy on her mother's radio show last year. Erin Davis is the co-host of 98.1 CHFI's Morning Show.

Lauren's colleagues used the social media network on Monday to express their condolences to her family after the sudden passing.

"Our beautiful Lauren Davis signing off for the last time," wrote CFRA reporter Alison Sandor on Twitter, while posting a picture of Davis while she was on air. "Words cannot describe just how much you meant to all of us."

CFRA confirmed the news in a statement on its website that promised to release more news regarding funeral arrangements once they were available.

CHFI in Toronto released a statement Monday afternoon expressing condolences to the Davis family.

Erin Davis had been in Jamaica, where she was supposed to be broadcasting live all week long.

The Toronto radio station said the week-long broadcast had been cancelled and Davis was on her way back home to be with family.

Richard Gray, regional vice-president for Bell Media, released a public statement on behalf of the radio station Monday afternoon.

"Lauren's sudden passing was a shock to our CFRA and Bell Media staff here in Ottawa," he said. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Lauren, who had just become a mom in the last year.

"We also want to extend our deepest sympathies to Lauren's husband, Phil Shirakawa, who is a producer with us here at CFRA. Lauren will be deeply missed by her family and the many colleagues here who knew her so well."
